Ballet INitiative in a nonprofit dance collective based in Indianapolis, Indiana. My introduction to their group came last winter when one of my kids was part of their annual Nutcracker with a Twist performance. The show, billed as a “feminist 1920s Nutcracker,” is primarily based in ballet, but also incorporates other styles of dance.
This spring I had two kids in their performance of Sleeping Beauty and the Enchanted Jewels. So when it came time for their dress rehearsal in mid-April, I asked to document it. They were all very welcoming and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of their world for one afternoon.
It’s incredible to witness the talent of these artists in my community. Their choreography and dance skills are wonderful to watch and I highly recommend checking out any of the shows that Ballet INitiative puts on throughout the year. Click here for more information on their group.
